Fractional RF Skin Resurfacing
Fractional RF skin resurfacing delivers radiofrequency energy through a matrix of micro-pins to renew the skin surface — improving texture, reducing acne scars, tightening pores and addressing fine lines. Administered at IVI Medical Clinic Singapore by MOH-licensed doctors.
Surface renewal, less downtime.
Fractional RF skin resurfacing sends radiofrequency energy through a matrix of micro-pins, creating tiny columns of controlled heat surrounded by untouched skin. That fractional pattern triggers natural repair and surface renewal with less downtime than ablative laser resurfacing.
Among RF options, this one is surface-focused: deeper fractional RF microneedling is for subdermal tightening and contouring, while this micro-pin stamping targets the superficial dermis — ideal for texture, pores, fine lines, acne scars and tone.
What to expect in a session.
Numbing cream goes on 30–45 minutes beforehand, then the handpiece is stamped systematically across the skin, delivering RF through the micro-pin matrix as a warm, prickling heat; a full face takes 30–60 minutes.
Afterwards skin is red and warm like moderate sunburn, with tiny micro-crusts that shed over three to five days. Diligent sun protection through recovery is essential.
Fractional RF Skin Resurfacing FAQ
How is fractional RF skin resurfacing different from laser resurfacing?
Ablative laser resurfacing removes the entire top layer of skin, requiring a longer recovery of one to two weeks. Fractional RF resurfacing treats only a fraction of the skin surface at a time — each micro-pin affects a small treatment zone with untreated skin between zones — so healing is faster. RF energy is also not absorbed differently by melanin, making it generally safer for Asian skin types compared with certain ablative lasers.
Is fractional RF skin resurfacing suitable for Asian skin tones?
Yes. One advantage of RF-based resurfacing compared with some laser treatments is that RF energy is not absorbed differently by melanin. This makes it generally safer for darker and Asian skin tones, which carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation with certain laser treatments. Your doctor will assess your skin type and recommend appropriate treatment settings.
How much downtime should I expect?
Most patients experience three to five days of visible skin redness and small micro-crusting at treatment points. The skin feels warm and slightly dry during this period. Makeup can typically be applied once the micro-crusts have shed — usually by day four or five. Social events involving close contact are best avoided during the first five days.
Can fractional RF skin resurfacing treat acne scars?
Yes. Fractional RF skin resurfacing is effective for rolling and boxcar acne scars, which involve depressions in the skin surface. The treatment stimulates collagen remodelling in and around the scar tissue, progressively lifting and smoothing depressed areas over a course of sessions. Deeper ice-pick scars may benefit from additional techniques such as subcision or punch excision for optimal improvement.
How many sessions will I need for acne scar treatment?
Three to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart is the standard course for acne scar improvement. Improvement continues for up to three months after the last session as collagen remodelling matures. The number of sessions depends on the severity and type of scarring — your doctor will provide a realistic assessment at consultation.
